MY TAKE ON THE PARK

Back in 2007 I was doing a trip through Southern California and the Mavericks were on the road. I decided to go to the park anyway to see if I could take some pictures and maybe buy a souvenir. The staff was so nice to me I promised I would make a return on a future trip to Los Angeles. In 2009, I made that trip.

Some things remained the same on the two trips, both were made from LA to the desert town of Adelanto, which I do not believe I saw because all I saw was desert. Upon arriving there is a spacious parking lot which will most likely be windy, but parking is free .. good job Mavericks!

Game time temperature was 100 degrees and that was at 7pm. I would not even want to think about attending an afternoon game here. As unbelievable as it will sound, the 100 degree start temperature felt cooler than many 85 degree east coast games. Chalk one up for the Mojave.

The staff at the park were as nice as the people I met in the front office in '07. However, not all was working well on the night I attended the game.

The scoreboard - didn't work  not even a Ball / Strike count

The Field - I did go in August and the field looked it. The outfield was burnt from line to line.

My immediate impression of this park was that it reminded me of L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. It may have been the brick concourse and cement colored pillars.

The California League seems to have the widest range of parks to travel to, all of which have a hardcore group of baseball fans. I really enjoy California League ballparks because like the Midwest, the baseball fans in California love the game.

It troubles me that I always hear of two California League teams folding and moving to the Carolina League or two teams moving to a more populated area. The league has old and new parks, parks in the desert and a parks near a water.

A trip to Stater Bros Stadium / Mavericks Stadium is a treat. Leave the house and it is 110 but bring a jacket because by the 8th inning it will be chilly. After the game, take a look at the sky, the stars are brighter here.
